erectile dysfunction and Age

Aging is a normal part of our lives. As we age, multiple changes tend to take place inside our bodies. Not only physical features of a person tend to change but the overall health of a person also changes. This is why it is said to indulge in a healthy lifestyle so that illnesses don’t take a toll on your health later on. Scientific researches suggest that a person ages after every 11 months. While a single year comprises 12 months, our bodies age after every 11 months. Strange, right? While it is easy to say that all you need to do is maintain your shape and size, it is not possible to follow a routine that suits everyone. However, when multiple illnesses seem to take a toll on a person’s health, that’s when the person gets to realize the importance of following a healthy routine. The same goes with the male sexual disorder Erectile Dysfunction (ED) as well. Erectile Dysfunction has been defined as the inability to achieve or sustain an erection satisfactory enough for sexual intercourse. That being said, the prevalence of this disorder increases with age and men aged 40 years and above are likely to fall prey to this particular disease. But how true is it? Well, a lot of physical and psychological factors play an important role in determining the extent or the severity of the problem. So, is there a particular age after which every man will suffer from this problem? Needless to say, while age plays an important role, not every man will suffer from this problem in his life. However, it is important to shed some light on the research that has been conducted in the past to draw an inference of how aging is related to erectile dysfunction. After all, a whopping 30 million men in the US suffer from this problem. That’s like almost 10% of the population of the US.

What does the Research Suggest?

As mentioned earlier, as a person ages, multiple illnesses often take a toll on the health of the person. A lot of men with ED often suffer from diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, high blood cholesterol, low testosterone, prostate cancer, etc. Cardiovascular diseases are known to hinder the blood circulation throughout the body. And for a person to achieve an erection, proper blood flow is necessary. Furthermore, low levels of testosterone can decrease the sexual drive of a person. This means that the person may not feel the urge to have sex as well. And when he doesn’t get an arousal, he may find it difficult to get a hard on as well.

A survey was conducted on more than 31,000 male health professionals. They were asked to rate their erectile function on the basis of their ability to achieve and sustain an erection. They were assessed on various other factors such as age, alcohol intake, daily exercise, etc. The results concluded that the older the men, the higher the reports of ED. Around 74% of younger men rated their sexual function as good compared to a quarter to a third of men aged 50 years and above who rated their sexual function as poor. It was also noted that men who had been following a healthy lifestyle and had no chronic disease were at a lower risk of experiencing ED. Physical factors such as obesity, smoking, and excessive TV watching were considered to be the culprit as well.

What’s the solution then? If aging does affect your erectile function, then what can be done to restore it?

Talk to Your Doctor for the Right Advice

While ED might seem like a difficult situation to get out of once, there are certain things you can do. Reach out to a medical professional who can diagnose your condition and suggest a suitable treatment plan for you. There are certain medications that can help restore erectile function by giving the erection you desire.

1. Viagra

Commonly known as the blue pill, Viagra is an oral drug prescribed for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. It contains Sildenafil Citrate that increases the blood flow to the penis and helps men get an erection. While a dose of Viagra 100 mg is often recommended, if you do not achieve any significant results from it, your doctor will increase your dose and suggest you to take a higher dose such as Sildenafil citrate 200 mg. The effects of this medicine typically last for 4-5 hours.

2. Cialis

Also known as the weekend pill, Cialis helps men get and sustain an erection for a long period of time. The effects of this medicine last for 36 hours. This means that the person can have a great time in bed the next day as well. This medicine comes in various doses such as 5 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 60 mg. If your condition is severe, your doctor may prescribe you a dose such as Tadalafil 60 mg

3.Levitra

Levitra contains Vardenafil that relaxes the smooth muscles present in the walls of the blood vessels of the penis. It comes in doses such as 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 60 mg. For men with moderate to severe ED, a dose of Vardenafil 60 mg is often prescribed. The effects of this medicine typically last for 5 hours.

While medications offer a wide range of benefits, it becomes your duty to maintain a healthy routine to restore your erectile function naturally in the long term. Limit your alcohol intake and quit smoking. Exercise daily and indulge in healthy eating. Practice mindfulness to cleanse your mind and make the most out of your daily routine.
