Coronavirus has changed the world from different aspects. Everything from the way we live our daily lives, the way children go to school, and the way we earn money. Most likely all you whose reading this today felt that impact.
A lot of people end up jobless, various malls and restaurants stopped operation. Nobody is going out afraid to catch this virus that still as the moment of writing doesn't have a cure yet.
Researchers think that COVID will have to stay around in a few more years. Businesses would have a struggle, some would probably still be in their others may not be able to survive. Our job market is experiencing an unprecedented shakeup. There are a few organizations I know who are weighing layoffs and would probably hire freelancers to continue their services. This is a huge opportunity for freelancers like me who got the skills and experience.
Working from home has shifted the trend and it is actually my lifesaver. Today, the number of freelancers amazingly raised. Various people swiftly got an interest to be one. Well, there's two things here, the good and bad thing. It's bad that a lot of businesses are struggling right now and you may have a lot of rivals unlike before. On the other side, it is good that the whole world is quickly up and containing this as a way to sustain the operation of their businesses.
If you still have uncertainty and having second thoughts about it, let me say the best time to plan is now, learn what you can. Invest your quarantined hours' with online training, educate yourself.
One of the steps that you consider right now is by building an updated resume. The next is confirming you got the required tools like a laptop, mouse, and internet. A freelancer must also be updated with the latest technology and software often used by various clients around the globe. Most likely it will be Google Docs, Drive, Sheet, Forms, Dropbox, Canva , Quickbooks, Wave Accounting, Asana, and Teamwork.
There are free resources online for these. I also give away free training for interested Filipino citizens who wanted to start from scratch. A college degree is an asset but not completely required, as long as you can write and speak in English with your clients that's fine.
The last thing you should prepare is your speech. Try to practice as if you are holding an interview. This way you will be ready and would be able to answer the usual question like tell me about yourself. When you're on the actual interview always try your best to decompress to keep yourself composed, concentrated, and smile from time to time.
Getting started in Freelancing as VA is not easy as it may sound, everything is hard when you are just getting started. As for me, it actually took years of practice that led me here to what I am today. I'll never regret the day I made the decision to change my life, with all this training and hard work and hard work I can say it's all worth it.
