It used to be that you either went to college or you settled for less. But today, trade schools offer so many advantages that going to college doesn’t have to be your only option. If you are considering becoming an electrician, here are three scenarios that could make this the best option for you.

1 - You already work in the field

If you have experience working in construction or working with electrical parts, you may be able to jumpstart your electrician career. That’s because many states don’t require a formal education before you apply for a license; meaning that if you already know what you are doing, you can skip the classes and go straight into your apprenticeship.

2 - You know people in the field

Finding an apprenticeship and getting a job offer are two of the trickiest parts of a new electrician’s career. If you have a friend or a family member who can provide both for you, your life as an electrician will be much easier.

3 - You want to be independent

If you want to be financially independent as soon as possible, trade school is a good route. Look into your local electrician license and certification requirements to learn more about the profession, or read this guide.
