Every divorce is heartbreaking, and it’s not uncommon for couples to stay in toxic marriages despite everything else not working. However, it’s important to realize that sometimes, divorce is necessary for both partners to heal. If you’re contemplating about divorce, here are the top reasons why other marriages end and why it might also just be the best solution in your situation.

Extramarital Relations

Sometimes in married life, passion is lost. There might be a lack of communication, intimacy, and deepening resentment that could start an extramarital affair. No matter the reason though, cheating can never be justified. When you’ve lost all trust for your partner because of cheating and no longer feel the relationship is worth saving, it’s okay to give it up.

Financial Disagreements

Constant bickering is one of the many reasons couples fight, and of these fights, money is often involved. It could be that one partner lost their job, one is earning a lot more and exerts control, or the couples have a different view on how to spend their paychecks. There are ways to address your financial issues while taking into account each other’s earnings and spending habits, but when the difference is huge, it could be hard to make things work.

Unhealthy Communication

Couples should consciously make time to check in with their spouse about how their day went, how they feel about certain things, etc. However, it’s not just the talking per se that makes communication healthy, but the way you treat each other while trying to get your point across. Yelling, pointing fingers, and cursing are all unhealthy ways to communicate. Being with someone who loses their respect for you amid an argument should make you think twice about your relationship.

Abuse

There are several factors associated with why a partner becomes abusive, including addiction, growing up in an abusive household, or a mental health issue. Denial can be common especially when the abusive partner didn’t show any tendencies in the past, but if you’re getting threats against your life or your children’s, it’s totally acceptable to think about getting a divorce.
