Did you apply for a green card by filing the form I 485 and got a request for more evidence?
Request for more evidence is nothing to be feared of. It does not mean your application is denied. It simply means that either your application is missing some documents or the USICS needs some additional proof to verify your claims.
When USICS need more evidence to support your document they send you a request for missing or additional evidence. This request is often called USICS request for evidence I 485.
You can always go online to read more on this and find specifics on the evidence they have requested. As long as you submit the additional evidence requested by the USICS you have nothing to worry.
Usually the USICS sends request for evidence if you are missing the supporting documents, do not have enough income to support your spouse, have a missing date of birth certificate, missing proof of legal entry or some other crucial documents.
When you get a request for evidence from the USICS don’t panic. Start by verifying that you did not submit these already with your original application. The officers often make a mistake. They are humans too.
If not gather all the documents and send it to the USICS in the original. If you are sending a photocopy because you already submitted the original with the application let them know. When you send the documents the top most sheet should be the original (not photocopy) of the request for additional evidence.
Be sure to mail these documents before the deadline or you could risk getting your petition rejected.
Once these steps are done then all you have to do is wait. The waiting can take anywhere between 8 months to 14 months. At this stage you can check the status of your application online.
