A waterflow switch is a tool that identifies the motion of the flow of water in a pipe or a channel. It has a vital use in fire protection uses to control the flow of water.
The basic purpose of a Waterflow Switch is to tell the fire alarm system that water is currently flowing in the sprinkling system. It converts the mechanical signals into electrical signals, and hence it informs the alarm system about the flow of water in the systems.

For the detection of the flow of water in the pipe, the system contains a paddle inside the pipe. During the motion of water in the pipe, the paddle gets pushed. The paddle then pushes the switches to get activated and function properly.
Basically, there are two switches to make the use of waterflow switches properly:
The local fire alarm system: It makes the alarm and evacuates the public from the building.
An outside horn/strobe: It informs the fire department that the water sprinkler is activated when they arrive.
